How to Increase the Blower Pressure on a Fan Pellet Stove

Pellet stoves are efficient heating systems that rely on a fuel supply of sawdust and other wood byproducts. Some stoves also use corn pellets as a fuel source. While pellet stoves typically are not effective at heating an entire home, they do heat a room comfortably and save you electricity by lowering furnace usage. Some pellet stoves rely on fans to blow the hot air out of the stove and also to vent the resulting gases up the flue. Increasing the pressure of these blower fans makes the furnace transfer heat at a faster rate.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the blower fan to remove any collected ash or dirt. This helps prevent the fan from getting blocked and slowing down. The fan needs to be clear of blockages to run at full speed and maximize the resulting air pressure.

    • 2

Check your pellets to verify they are dry and that they are the recommended type for your stove model. Improper pellets result in more debris that can clog the system and also lead to erratic stove behavior. As a result, changing pellet types sometimes increases the blower pressure because the system is running optimally.

Examine the fan blade on the combustion motor blower shaft. A loose blade results in lower pressure due to the extra movement in the mechanism. Tighten the blade if it seems loose.

    • 4

Check the door seal by placing a piece of paper in the door and then closing it. If the paper pulls out easily, the gasket in the door loose or faulty and is allowing air to leak out, reducing the pressure a blower fan generates. Replace the gasket around the door in accordance with the instructions for your particular model. Disconnect the power and ensure the stove is cooled before making any repairs.

Disconnect the blower from your pellet stove and replace it with a more powerful model if the pressure and performance is still not improved. The method for this varies per stove so check your manual or request professional assistance.
