GE Fanuc Series 90-30 Troubleshooting

The GE Fanuc series 90-30 is a model of logic controller. Programmable logic controllers function as the brain behind automated systems such as assembly lines and manufacturing plants. The GE Fanuc series helps ensure that multiple machines work together in a particular order and at the correct pace to complete a series of processes efficiently. If it malfunctions, multiple machines and devices can be affected. The controller therefore needs troubleshooting as soon as problems arise.

Instructions

    • 1

Replace the memory backup battery in the unit if the unit reports a "low battery signal" or if the battery light on the power supply turns red. The battery helps prevent malfunctions in the event of a power failure, but the battery requires occasional replacement to keep the unit working properly. The battery is in a snap case on the bottom of the power supply.

    • 2

Look at the three top lights on the power supply. They should all be on and green. If one or more are not on, the central processing unit is not running properly, and the system requires maintenance. If the top two lights are green and the third light, labeled "run," is not on, the CPU itself is likely malfunctioning.

    • 3

Check the fault table on the unit for more information regarding errors and malfunctions. The system logs all detected problems and classifies them as "informational," "diagnostic" or "fatal." Informational faults may not affect system function, but the unit tells you about them so you're aware of the issue. "Diagnostic" faults mean the system tries to correct the problem itself. "Fatal" faults are more serious and likely require professional examination. The system stops running when fatal faults occur.

    • 4

Disconnect any recent devices that have been hooked up to the unit if you get the error message "Addition of I/O Module" or "Error Code 18." This indicates the new device either isn't installed properly or is causing a problem with the rest of the system.

    • 5

Wait for the system to finish its current processes if you see "Error Code 26." This means the system is busy and cannot accept new configurations at this time. Wait a few minutes and then check the status again.

    • 6

Request professional inspection and service if the unit continues to malfunction.
