How to Trim an EMCO Storm Door

EMCO manufacturers the frame for Anderson storm doors. When installing an Anderson storm door, it is necessary to trim the hinge rail and latch rail of the EMCO frame. Always follow the instructions that come with your Anderson door when installing it in the doorway. Once you have the drip cap up, the top rail of the door frame, you are ready to measure and trim the EMCO frame rails.

Instructions

      Place the latch-side of the door on its edge on the ground with the hinge-side edge pointing toward you. Place the top of the hinge rail onto the hinge side of the door. The hinge on the rail will line up with the hinge mounting holes on the edge of the door.

      Secure the hinges from the hinge rail into the door edge mounting screws with the self-drilling screws and a cordless screwdriver.

      Measure the hinge-side of the door opening from the bottom of the drip cap to the top of the door sill with a tape measure. Transfer the measurement to the hinge rail, measuring from the top of the rail down to the bottom. Make a mark at the measurement.

      Cut the bottom end of the hinge rail off at the mark with a hacksaw. Remove any burrs on the end of the hinge rail with a fine-tooth file. Install the EMCO Anderson storm door and hinge rail into the opening according to the instructions that come with the door.

      Measure from the bottom of the drip cap to the top of the door sill on the latch side of the door opening. Transfer the measurement to the latch rail, starting from the top of the rail. Make a mark at the measurement. Cut the latch rail at the mark with a hacksaw and remove any burrs with the file.
