Prepare your bathtub surface by cleaning it with a nonabrasive bathtub cleaner. Apply a nickel-sized amount of a soft scrubbing cleaner to a damp cloth and wash the surface.
Rinse the surface with water and dry it well with clean cloths.
Protect your floor area by laying down plastic drop cloths to protect the surface.
Mix concrete resurfacing compound in a large bucket, according to the manufacturer's directions. Use a paddle mixer to break up any lumps in the compound as you mix it with water.
Smooth the concrete resurfacing compound over the interior of your bathtub with a small trowel. Spread the mixture evenly and smoothly over the interior surface to a depth of approximately 1/4 inch.
Spread the concrete resurfacer to the edges of the tub so there are no obvious ridges. Allow the cement resurfacing compound to cure for 24 hours.
Fill a spray painter with epoxy-based primer. Move the sprayer back and forth across the interior bathtub surface to apply the primer to the cement overlay in a thin, even coat. Allow the first primer coat to air dry for six to eight hours. Apply a second primer coat and let it dry for overnight.
Spray paint the primed cement overlay in your bathtub with an acrylic urethane-based paint made specifically for refinishing bathtubs. Apply one thin coat with the spray painter. Allow the coat to dry for eight to 12 hours. Repeat this step at least two more times and up to four more times to achieve a lustrous smooth finish for your bathtub surface.
