How Do You Bleed Down a Pressure Washer Unloader Valve?

Pressure washers are effective at cleaning concrete, wood and siding when used properly because the combination of high heat and water pressure eliminates a large amount of dirt and debris. An unloader valve is a safety feature that helps prevent the washer from building up too much water pressure. Too much pressure causes hoses to burst, valves to break and motors to burn out, and any one of these occurrences carries a risk of user injury. Unloader valves typically regulate themselves but if you need to bleed down the pressure unloader valve manually, it is not a complicated process.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the pressure washer motor. This helps prevent further pressure from building up, and some pressure will be reduced immediately.

    • 2

Close the water valve leading to the pressure washer. This further reduces stress on the unloader valve.

    • 3

Pull the trigger on the nozzle. This bleeds any remaining pressure out of the system, and the unloader valve will be free of pressure once the remaining air and water come out of the nozzle.
