# How to Insulate Light Switch Wall Plates
Light switches are not normally what comes to mind when looking for ways to insulate your home. However, heat can be lost through light switches and electrical outlets. These are normally connected to an electrical service via channels that lack fiberglass or similar insulating materials. Prevent heat loss through light switches by insulating the wall plates covering the electrical boxes.
Things You'll Need
- Light switch
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Flip switch gasket

Loosen and remove the light switch wall plate retaining screws. Remove the wall plate from the light switch.

Place the gasket over the light switch. Press the gasket into the light switch box so that it fits snugly over the light switch.

Hold the gasket in place and replace the light switch wall plate. Insert the screws through the light switch wall plate and through the gasket holes. Tighten the screws so that the wall plate holds the gasket snugly into the switch box.
