How to Cover Up a Heat Vent

A forced air heating system delivers the warm air to each room through vents in the floor. Many homeowners close off specific vents in order to reduce the conditioning in one area while increasing it in another. This is common in second-floor rooms during the winter because heat naturally rises to these area's leaving them uncomfortably warm. Covering up heat vents is done by installing magnetic vent covers over them.

     Determine whether the resisters in you home are a magnetic metal by placing a magnet on them and seeing if it sticks. If they are not magnetic you need to change the registers to ones that are.

     Hold the magnetic register cover over the register aligning its shape with the shape of the register.

   • 3

     Push down on the register cover so that it sticks to the register.

   • 4

     Pull off the magnetic register cover when you want to remove them.
