How to Stop Water From Spitting From the AC

Window air conditioner units condense refrigerant to chill warm air and circulate it through the house. This process expends a lot of energy and creates condensation that needs to be drained outside the home. Typically, your air conditioner, when clean, will dispose of this water. If the air conditioner is clogged, the water has nowhere to go. When this happens, your air conditioner may spit water into the home. A thorough cleaning will prevent this from occurring.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the drain cap on the bottom of the air conditioner, near the condensation fins on the portion of the AC hanging outside.

    • 2

Pull on the drain cap using a pair of pliers to remove it. Watch you hands; the fins of the condenser are sharp.

    • 3

Insert the drainpipe that came with the air conditioner into the drain hole. The water should begin to drain.

    • 4

Pull out the drain pipe once the unit is drained and replace the cap.
