How to Light a New Richmond Power Vent Water Heater

Many models of Richmond water heaters, including the Power Vent, feature an electronic ignition system. These types of heaters use an ignition button to generate a spark, which then ignites a pilot light for the heater. To light a brand new Richmond water heater, you'll want to make sure that the utilities are all connected first.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the gas supply valve adjacent to the water heater. The lever for the heater is long and usually has a plastic covering. Check that the gas is on by turning the valve all the way in the direction indicated by the arrow.

    • 2

Turn on the electricity for the Richmond heater, if it is not already on, by switching on the circuit where the heater is connected.

    • 3

Open the door at the bottom of the Richmond heater by pressing in on the door and sliding it to the right.

    • 4

Locate the gas supply feed line on the inside of the door. There will be a knob mounted a few inches inside the door. Make sure that this knob is turned all the way to the "on" position.

    • 5

Locate the ignition button, which is in the same area as the supply knob. These project above the pipe about an inch.

    • 6

Press down on the ignition button for at least five seconds. You should hear the sound of the gas lighting. If not, wait about a minute, then try depressing the button again.
