How to Replace a Braided Oven Door Seal

Food that cooks unevenly or doesn't cook all the way through even though you are following a recipe's exact instructions can often be traced to a damaged oven seal. Oven seals are meant to prevent the heat of an oven from escaping. A braided oven seal provides added durability to protect against tears, however, will still be subject to regular wear and tear. Replace the oven door seal in just a few minutes using a few common household items to ensure your baked items are cooking all the way through.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the oven door.

    • 2

Lift up the braided oven door seal to expose the screws. The seal sits inside a channel within the door frame. The screws are located underneath the bottom of the seal and screw into the channel on the frame. Most oven seals are secured with eight or more screws along the top, bottom and left and right sides of the door.

    • 3

Loosen the screws to free the seal.

    • 4

      Pull the old seal out.

    • 5

Clean out the seal channel using a dampened cloth and liquid dishwashing soap.

    • 6

Place the new door seal into the channel starting at the top of the oven. Work your way down the sides and around the bottom until you have sealed the oven completely.

    • 7

Tighten the screws over the seal to secure it in place.
