How to Install a Boxwood Heater

A boxwood heater refers to a small wood stove that is used to help heat a garage or room in your house. Since a boxwood heater burns wood to create heat, it is important to install the heater properly to avoid starting a fire. It’s also important to vent the stove to the outside to prevent dangerous fumes from getting inside. You can install the heater at home if you follow instructions carefully, or have a professional do it if you’re not confident.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the heater from the packaging and attach the four legs using the nuts and bolts provided.

    • 2

Attach the leg strap to the inside of the front set of legs and rear set of legs with the screws, nuts and lock washers provided with your kit.

    • 3

Position your heater at least 36 inches away from combustible walls. Place the heater as close to the rear wall as you’d like if the wall is made of solid stone or brick.

    • 4

Attach the flue collar to the top portion of the heater with the bolts and tabs provided. Connect the self-adhesive flue collar gasket in the groove underneath the collar.

    • 5

Connect the three sections of stovepipe together by inserting three sheet metal screws into each joint. Ensure the sections of pipe are held together securely.

    • 6

Clean out the chimney and thoroughly inspect the flue liner for damage if you’re going to use an existing chimney for your heater. Consult local fire, building and insurance codes before you connect the stove pipe to the chimney.

    • 7

Seal the stovepipe at the chimney with furnace cement, but don’t allow the pipe to extend into the flue of the chimney.
