Shut down the furnace at the wall thermostat and cut off electricity for the ignitor by turning off the circuit breaker.
Turn the handle in the fuel line to the right to stop the flow of gas while adjusting the line regulator, which is attached to the furnace valve. Inspect the surface of the regulator to locate the recommended setting, which is usually printed on the unit. If there is no information on the regulator, contact your furnace manufacturer or a heating, ventilation and air conditioning specialist for recommended settings.
Turn the hexagonal bolt on the line regulator counterclockwise to lower the pressure of gas flowing to the furnace. The bolt is marked with an arrow noting the different pressure settings. Twisting the bolt to the right, or clockwise, will increase the pressure of gas flowing to the furnace. Do not set the pressure higher or lower than the recommended setting for your equipment.
