How to Change the Motor Speed on a Tappan Furnace

Tappan manufactures a line of gas furnaces with variable-speed blower motors linked to a programmable thermostat. The adjustable speed on the motor blower helps the furnace operate with maximum efficiency. The design also helps reduce the banging noises often associated with furnaces when the motor turns on and ramps up to speed. Setting the motor speed involves using the wall thermostat installed with the Tappan furnace system. Changing the speed takes only seconds. No tools or materials are needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Menu" button on the pressure-sensitive thermostat keypad.

    • 2

Select the day and time from the menu for activating the furnace, using the up or down arrow keys in the upper right corner.

    • 3

Press the "Fan" key in the lower right corner repeatedly until the thermostat displays the desired speed. The thermostat will display "On" to indicate the fan motor is activated.
