Locate the Frigidaire owners' manual. To avoid injury and ensure that the Frigidaire compressor has been properly charged, reading this brochure is essential. Individuals who cannot locate the manual may want to contact Frigidaire via email or phone and request an additional copy (see Resources). In most cases, the company will send the manual at no charge.
Prepare the refrigerator for charging. Unplug the machine and rotate if necessary, ensuring that the back of the refrigerator is exposed.
Locate the compressor. On most Frigidaire refrigerators, the compressor is located near the top of the backside of the machine and is traditionally covered with a grill or grate. Use a screwdriver to remove any of the screws that may be holding the grill or grate in place, and set to the side. Take off the cover plate, and place with the removed screws.
Clean the compressor. Open the valve on the right side of the compressor, and attach the vacuum pump. Clean the compressor with the pump, removing any old Freon that may still be present. Take the vacuum pump off the compressor when all debris has been removed.
Attach the Freon cylinder to the compressor. Use the hose clamps to connect the Freon cylinder to the refrigerator hose. Another set of hose clamps can be used to attach the open end of the refrigerator hose to the compressor valve. Use a wrench to tighten the clamps, ensuring that all seals are secure.
Open the valve on the Freon cylinder. This will allow the chemical to flow into the Frigidaire compressor, charging the device. Leave the valve open until all Freon has passed into the compressor.
Remove the Freon cylinder. Use the wrench to detach the Freon cylinder from the refrigerator hose. Pour 5 tablespoons of refrigerant oil into the hose, holding the hose at an angle to ensure the oil enters the compressor. Use a wrench to remove the hose and clamps from the compressor. Close the valve, and reattach the grill or grate.
