How to Monitor Btu's With PLC

When a heating unit, such as the Steffes 2100, is installed for a room in your home you can monitor the Btu usage by using the Power Line Carrier or PLC communication setting. To do this you need to read a value on the transmitting device for the heating unit. However, the heating unit needs to be configured with a transmitting device to display the heating unit's Btu usage.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the heater unit if it is currently running. Go to the circuit panel for your home and turn off the breaker for the heater unit.

    • 2

Turn the breaker back on and return to the control panel for the heater unit. Press the “M” button until you see “CONF” appear on the display. You have accessed the Configuration menu.

    • 3

Press the “Up” arrow button. You will see the “C000” option appear on the display. Press and hold the “M” button. Change the currently selected value by pressing the “Up” or “Down” arrow buttons.

    • 4

Release both the “M” and the “Up” or “Down” arrow button. Press the “Up” arrow button and scroll to the option for “C003.” Press and hold the “M” button. Use the “Up” or “Down” arrow button to change the selected value. If the value is set to “Zero” for “C003” the PLC option is disabled.

    • 5

Turn on the PLC transmitting device. Verify that the setting on the heater unit matches the value on the transmitting device. Set the transmitting device to display “BTU.” Read the display to view the Btu usage.
