My CruisAir Carry-On Air Conditioner Is Dripping

CruisAir air conditioners are meant to run without excessive noise or mess. When the unit is well maintained, you should not have issues with water dripping inside the air conditioner cabinet or at the bottom of the unit. If your CruisAir air conditioner begins to drip, it is time to give it a thorough cleaning and check the drain.
  1. Condensate

    • The cooling process for your CruisAir AC creates water. The water is collected in the condensate drip pan. Water then drains down a hose or pipe that runs from the unit. When the drain is clogged, water will begin to drip as it overflows from the drip pan area. Not all drips are due to a clogged hose, however; proper installation of the drain is necessary to facilitate the drainage process.

    Hose

    • Locate the drainage hose at the side of the unit. Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked. The hose should be routed so that it is at an angle. running 1/4-inch lower for every foot of hose. Check the hose for signs of cracking, which may cause leaks to appear.

    Blocked Hose

    • Over the course of a year the moisture inside the drain hose may create the conditions necessary for the buildup of algae. Algae can grow inside of the hose and cause blockages. Clogs that are large enough will cause the drain hose to back up and flood the drain pan at the top of the unit. Unscrew the hose from the unit with a wrench and remove the clog with a wire hanger. Pour a cup of bleach into the hose to kill any remaining algae.

    Cleaning

    • CruisAir units have drain holes at the top of the unit and at the housing exterior. Clean out the drain holes inside the unit and remove any clogs with a wire brush. Wash down the drain holes with diluted bleach then place the nozzle of a shop vacuum over the drain hose and turn it on for a few seconds to remove the clog from the drain.
