Kenmore Flat Top Element Repair

A Kenmore flat top stove is a type of stove that has a single, smooth surface for its cooktop. This makes it easier to clean, but a flat top cannot be used with a gas fuel. This means that all flat top stoves are electrical, and use heating elements to produce their heat. These elements can become broken or damaged over time and need to be repaired.
  1. Sensors and Range Control

    • Your Kenmore oven uses a number of different sensors, all wired into a primary range control, in order to judge the heat of the electrical elements and keep them within the proper range so you can cook with accuracy. Sometimes these sensors or the control circuity can malfunction, which leads to an element that will only heat partway, or cannot be controlled. Replacing the sensors or control components can solve the problem.

    Receptacle Burnout

    • At other times the problem may be the receptacle that one of your heating elements fits into. These receptacles can become dirty or corroded. Again, nothing is wrong with the element itself in this case, but it cannot receive electric current properly through a faulty receptacle. If only one of your elements is malfunctioning but the element itself appears undamaged, you may need to replace the receptacle.

    Purchasing New Elements

    • Sometimes an element will burn out and stop working entirely. This occurs when the element insulation fails and the element cracks. There is no possible repair that will restore this element, and it needs to be replaced as soon as possible to avoid fire hazards. Purchase a new element for your stove model from the Kenmore website or another site that carries similar products.

    Breaker Issues

    • The electrical current to your elements is controlled by breakers in your Kenmore oven. If these breakers malfunction or suddenly switch off, then all your elements will stop working. You may need to replace these breakers in order to fix your oven and allow your elements to function again.
