How to Fix a Sprayer Nozzle on an Oil Furnace

The oil sprayer nozzle on an oil furnace plays several important functions. The nozzle atomizes the oil into tiny droplets that easily catch on fire, keeping the flame inside the furnace consistent. The nozzle also supplies a steady rate of fuel and sprays the oil in a set pattern. A faulty nozzle will consume too much oil and may impair the furnace's operation. Replacement of the nozzle is necessary if the nozzle is not functioning properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the oil furnace burner at the circuit breaker.

    • 2

Tighten the nozzle at the hex with an adjustable wrench. Use a clean wrench to prevent contamination of the nozzle.

    • 3

Adjust the nozzle's alignment by tightening it with a wrench so that it is flush with the inside wall the combustion chamber. This prevents the nozzle from overheating.

    • 4

Remove the old nozzle if it appears clogged or worn. Replace with the proper nozzle for your furnace. See your owner's manual.
