Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the circuit breaker for the heater at the household service panel.

    • 2

Run two electrical wires to and from the thermostat if necessary. One wire, the supply wire, runs from the household service panel to the thermostat's mounting location in the electrical receptacle box. The second wire runs from the baseboard heater to the thermostat's mounting location in the receptacle box. In many cases, these wires are already present in the wall, and you just need to connect the Honeywell thermostat to the existing wiring.

    • 3

Connect the bare copper or green-sheathed wires in the receptacle box together. Twist the ends of the copper wires together and screw on a wire nut. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape.

    • 4

Flip the Honeywell thermostat over to view its backside. Connect the black wire at the top of the thermostat, labeled "LINE," to the black supply line in the receptacle box. Twist the wires together and screw on a wire nut. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape.

    • 5

Connect the red-colored wire on the thermostat, labeled "LINE," to the white supply line in the receptacle box. Twist the wires together and screw on a wire nut. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape.

    • 6

Attach the black wire at the bottom of the thermostat, labeled "LOAD," to the black wire that leads to the baseboard heater. Twist the wires together and screw on a wire nut. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape.

    • 7

Connect the red wire at the bottom of the thermostat, labeled "LOAD," to the white wire that leads to the baseboard heater. Twist the wires together and screw on a wire nut. Tape the wire nut to the wires with electrical tape. Tuck the wires into the receptacle box and screw the Honeywell thermostat onto the wall.

    • 8

Go to the baseboard heater and remove the small metal panel at one end of the heater. Locate the black and white set of thermostat wiring and the two black wires that belong to the baseboard heater.

    • 9

Connect the black thermostat wire to one of the black heater wires. Connect the white thermostat wire to the other black heater wire. Screw on wire nuts and tape each wire nut to its wires with electrical tape. Replace the small metal panel onto the heater.

    • 10

Turn the circuit breaker power on at the service panel.
