Install your oil burner control in a 4-inch square metal junction box fastened directly to the main burner housing or furnace cabinet. Install a box with sheet-metal screws if one is not already present. Run wires for AC line voltage and the low-voltage oil-burner flame detector into the junction box. Strip 3/8 inch of insulation from the ends of the wires.
Insert the line-voltage wires into the line-voltage terminals on the underside of the control box. Tighten the terminal screws. Pass the flame detector’s wires from the underside of the box up through the access hole provided on the control. Insert the flame detector’s leads into the low-voltage terminals marked F1 and F2 on top of the control. Tighten the screws. Connect the wires from the thermostat to the low-voltage terminals marked T1 and T2. Tighten the screws.
Connect the black “hot” wire from the control box to the lead from the high-temperature limit switch. Connect the orange “hot” wire from the control box to the leads for the burner motor and fuel-oil igniter. Connect the white, neutral wire from the box to the neutral wire for the oil burner assembly. To make connections, twist the bare wire ends together and secure them with a wire nut. Attach the burner control to the junction box with two No. 8 mounting screws. Tighten the screws.
Replacement of a Honeywell gas burner control involves installation of a new gas valve and control module. Mount the new valve and new module in the same places as the old units you are replacing. Thread the gas supply pipe into the valve’s inlet with the pipe wrench. Fit the end of the tubing for the gas burner into the valve’s outlet and tighten the compression sealing nut with a wrench.
Wire the gas valve to the control module. Connect the valve-ground terminals on the valve and control module. Strip 3/8 inch of insulation off the wire ends. Insert the ends into the ground terminals and tighten the screws. In the same manner, connect a second wire to the “hot” terminals on the valve and the module and tighten the screws.
Connect the two wires from the thermostat to the 24 volt thermostat terminals on the control module. Tighten the screws. Connect the hot and ground wires from the igniter/flame sensor unit to the igniter/sensor terminals on the control module. Tighten the screws.
