Repairing Burns on Porcelain

A porcelain sink is durable and stain resistant, but not impervious to burns. Whether the sink was burned by a cigarette, candle, hair appliance or any other source, the yellowish-brown discoloration makes the entire sink look dingy. Although deep burns cannot be removed, if the burn is more on the surface, try some quick techniques to restore the porcelain back to its original state.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the sink with a rag and soapy water to remove any discoloration from the porcelain’s surface. Wipe it with a dry cloth to remove residue and moisture.

    • 2

Pour 1 teaspoon of baking soda into a bowl. Add ½ teaspoon of warm water and stir.

    • 3

Rub the baking soda and water mixture onto the burn spot with a clean rag. Apply moderate pressure when rubbing the paste onto the spot. Leave the baking soda paste on the sink for 10 minutes.

    • 4

Scrub the area with an old toothbrush to rub away the burn mark. Don’t scrub too hard or you risk scratching the porcelain.

    • 5

Wipe the sink with a damp rag. Dry thoroughly.
