How to Determine the Length of Hardware for Drawers

Choosing pulls for your drawers don't follow too many specific rules. From a single knob fitted in the center of your drawer face to a pull that spans its entire width, you are limited only by your style and taste. Drawer slides need a bit more thought. Consider replacing your existing drawer slide to one rated to hold more weight, maybe one that fully extends the drawer from your cabinet, or perhaps a self-closing slide. Whichever drawer slide you decide on, you must know the maximum length slide your closed drawer can accommodate.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the existing drawer from the base cabinet, dresser or wardrobe.

    • 2

Measure the outside depth of the drawer. Start your measurement from behind the drawer facing and continue to the back of the drawer.

    • 3

Measure the depth of the base cabinet, dresser or wardrobe front wall. Subtract the depth of the front wall from the depth measurement of the drawer to obtain the maximum length for your drawer slide.
