How to Troubleshoot a Sears Clothes Dryer

While a dryer on the fritz can be distressing, take a few moments to troubleshoot it. Like all dryers, Sears Kenmore brand experiences its fair share of problems. If you notice that your dryer isn't working properly -- from not heating properly to taking too long to dry clothes to making strange noises -- try to diagnose the problem on your own before hiring someone else to do it.

Check the lint trap if your dryer isn't drying your clothes fully. The trap collects the lint that comes off your clothes while they're drying. When it's full, your clothes will not dry all the way. Remove the lint from the trap and then try to dry your clothes again.

Check power sources if your dryer is not functioning at all. Ensure that the machine's plug is firmly plugged in. Check your breaker box to make sure the dryer's switch has not flipped off. Flip it back if it has and test the dryer again.

Check your settings. Kenmore dryers have heat options based on the size of the load you are drying. You may be drying too many clothes on a low setting. Adjust the settings or the size of your drying load and try again.

    • 4

Check the pilot light if you are using one of Kenmore's gas dryers. If the light is not lit, your dryer will not work properly. Reignite the pilot light if it's out.

Try the "Sensor Dry" setting on your Kenmore dryer if your clothes are coming out of the machine with too much static. This setting will stop the machine when the clothes are dry, cutting down the amount of time the dry clothes will continue to get heat.
