Clear an area in which to work, and lay down a rug or mat you do not mind getting dirty.
Place the dolly on the rug or mat and turn the dolly over. If applicable, remove the handle or any other parts so the dolly can lie flat.
Inspect the tire for any puncture holes or other reasons for deflation. Check the tire valve to make sure the leak is not due to a missing or incorrectly placed valve cap.
If applicable, cover punctures with masking tape or another adhesive. Be sure to apply the adhesive smoothly so the wheel can roll properly.
Ensure the needle is properly fitted into the bicycle pump. Loose needles will not properly supply air to the tire.
Remove the cap from the tire valve.
Insert the needle into the valve on the tire and pump the handle, foot-pump or other device as applicable to the type of bicycle pump you are using.
Fill with air until the tire is firm. Test by squeezing across the width of the tire, or use a tire pressure gauge to fill to the level detailed in the dolly's user manual.
Replace the tire's valve cap tightly.
If the tire does not have a valve, you can use the needle to puncture a hole to fill the tire with air. Masking tape or other adhesive must be applied afterward to prevent further leaking. This method can still cause leaking, in which case a replacement tire is recommended.
