How to Troubleshoot an Ice Machine on a Roper Refrigerator by Whirlpool

The Roper refrigerator by Whirlpool features an ice machine inside the freezer door of the refrigerator that produces ice and sends the ice through the dispenser on the appliance's door. Abnormal operation of the Whirlpool ice maker can result due to a disconnected power cord, ice tray buildup or a misadjusted ice maker sensor bar. You can fix all these issues yourself and avoid expensive professional repairs, regardless of your ice maker troubleshooting expertise.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the freezer door on the Roper refrigerator and find the ice tray. Open the tray and examine the inside.

    • 2

Check the appliance's power cord, if the ice tray is empty and the freezer does not feel cold. The power cord may have simply become detached from the power outlet.

    • 3

Check the thin, metal sensor bar in the upper left of the Whirlpool ice maker's tray, if the freezer is cold but the tray is devoid of ice. This sensor bar must be in its "low" or downward position for ice to be made. Push the bar down gently to orient it correctly and again begin ice production.

    • 4

Clear out the Whirlpool ice maker's tray, if it is being filled up with large chunks of ice. These chunks may have formed over time and are likely blocking the dispenser and not allowing any ice to travel through the door into your cup. Remove any ice chunks and ensure the tray is not overflowing.
