How to Fix an Ice Maker in a GE Fridge

General Electric (GE) manufactures a variety of refrigerators that feature an ice maker assembly within the freezer component of the appliance. These parts can break down and disrupt the flow of ice because of the build up of ice within the ice tray and the incorrect positioning of the ice maker's sensor arm or bar that controls the production of new ice. You can troubleshoot issues with the ice maker by first checking for any ice blockages.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure that the fridge's power cable is plugged into the power outlet.

    • 2

Find the ice tray inside the freezer door. Slide off the front panel of the ice maker tray. If the tray is empty, you'll need to adjust the sensor arm of the tray. This arm is at the top of the tray and must be pushed down into its bottom orientation for ice production to resume. If the arm becomes stuck in an upward orientation, the ice maker will be sent a signal that ice production isn't necessary. Move the sensor arm back down manually.

Check the ice tray again if ice won't dispense from the front freezer door. The sensor arm may be positioned correctly, but the tray may become "backed up" because of large ice blocks that are sealing the front of the tray and blocking the dispenser from accessing the machine's ice cubes. Remove these ice blocks from the ice tray and let them melt in the sink.
