How to Clean & Sanitize Sewage on Cement

Cleaning up the sewage and sanitizing the cement is vital to the health of you, your family and pets. Instructions

    • 1

Put on rubber gloves and a face mask to prevent inhalation of or direct contact with bacteria and germs. Wear old clothing and rubber boots.

    • 2

Scoop up solid sewage with a shovel and dispose of it in a trash bag. Cover liquid from the sewage overflow with sawdust.

    • 3
Sawdust helps solidify the sewage spill for easier cleanup.

Allow the sawdust to absorb the sewage liquid for 30 minutes. Shovel it off the cement surface to remove it. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 as needed to remove any remaining waste.

    • 4

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. Add 1/2 cup of bleach.

    • 5

Wet a scrub brush in the diluted bleach solution. Scrub the cement surface with the bleach solution to clean and sanitize it. Rinse the brush often. Apply more diluted bleach solution and continue to scrub until the entire surface has been cleaned.

    • 6

Leave the bleach solution to sit on the cement surface for 15 to 20 minutes to sanitize it. Rinse the cement off with a hose.

    • 7

Allow the cement surface to air dry completely.
