How to Adjust Water Pressure in a Posi Temp Shower Valve

The Moen Posi-Temp shower valves are pressure balanced valves that act to balance out hot and cold water supply to the faucet when the water pressure changes in order to keep a more stable temperature during a shower. These faucets have an adjustment that allows you to control how much hot and cold water comes through your shower. This adjustment is the only way to increase or decrease hot water pressure to the faucet and it helps you set your shower at the perfect temperature.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the handle to the hot water side and wait until the water reaches a steady hot temperature. Test the water temperature and decide whether to increase of decrease the hot water setting.

    • 2

Turn the hot water off by turning the handle back to the off position.

    • 3

Take the handle off the Moen Posi Temp faucet by loosening the set screw on the faucet handle's base with an Allen wrench and pulling back on the handle. On older faucets, remove the cap on the top of the handle first, as the screw is underneath it.

    • 4

Remove the limit stop and key stop, the two nylon or metal rings that slide over the cartridge.

    • 5

Reduce or increase the amount of handle rotation by turning the stop clockwise or counterclockwise; turn the stop counterclockwise to increase the amount of hot water, and clockwise to reduce it. The amount you turn will result in a reduction or increase in hot water pressure through the faucet. This will vary based on your model faucet and your home's water heater, along with your personal preferences. Repeat this step until you achieve the right setting for your particular faucet.
