Decide on the location for the hole and ensure it is correct to avoid drilling an unnecessary hole.
Install a masonry drill bit into your drill that is the size you want the hole. Open the chuck at the end of the drill using your hand or with a key, depending on your type of drill. Insert the bit completely and tighten the chuck.
Wear goggles to protect your eyes from flying particles of debris.
Hold the trigger part of the drill in your dominant hand and place your other hand under the front of the drill, just behind the chuck. Position the drill above the location for the hole at a 90-degree angle to the wall's surface. Keep the drill at a 90-degree angle to the surface the entire time you are drilling the hole. Pull the trigger and use a moderate amount of pressure to guide the drill bit into the wall. Back out the drill bit while it is still turning to avoid chipping the edges of the hole.
