How to Replace a GE Profile Ice Maker

The General Electric (GE) Profile ice maker is included within the freezer door of the GE Profile line of side-by-side refrigerators. It creates ice that comes through the dispenser on the freezer's door. This ice maker can suffer from a number of problems common to such devices and may eventually require full replacement. Instructions

    • 1

Move the GE Profile refrigerator slightly away from the wall. Unplug the appliance's power cord, then find the water shutoff valve at the back of the refrigerator. You can locate the valve by following the water supply tube down the back of the fridge to where it connects to it.

    • 2

Turn the handle on the end of the valve counterclockwise. This will deactivate the valve.

    • 3

Open the refrigerator's freezer door and locate the ice tray at the top of the freezer. Pull it up and out.

    • 4

Reach around the back of the ice maker assembly to find its electronic harness. This connects to the electronic harness on the freezer's rear with a clasp. The clasps on the two harnesses lock together. Unlock them by squeezing them together.

    • 5

Remove the refrigerator's ice maker by taking out its screws with a 1/4-inch hex screwdriver. You must remove two screws along the top of the ice maker and a couple more along the bottom. Then slide the ice maker out.

    • 6

Slide the new GE Profile refrigerator ice maker in. Follow your disassembly steps in reverse in order to secure the ice maker within the Profile's freezer area.

    • 7

Reactivate the water shutoff valve by turning its handle clockwise. Plug the refrigerator's power cord back into the outlet you removed it from previously.
