How to Troubleshoot a GROHE Avensys Classic

The Grohe Avensys Classic shower faucet contains a cartridge valve inside the base of the faucet in your shower wall. This cartridge is the single most important part when troubleshooting a leak or temperature problem. If your faucet is having some kind of problem, you will have to either remove or adjust this part. The process only takes about an hour, and all you'll need are some common tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the shutoff lever toward the "Open" position to turn the shower water on. Adjust the temperature knob, the other lever on the faucet handle, to set your hot water temperature. Set it until your water is perfect, if the water temperature is not ideal.

    • 2

Remove the cap on the top of the handle and use an Allen wrench to unscrew the screw under this cap. Remove any additional adapters by taking out their screws with the Allen wrench, if your faucet has additional adapters, and then pull off the handle.

    • 3

Make sure the temperature of the water is set to your ideal level. Once it's set, replace the handle and tighten the set screw. If this is not the problem, move on to the next troubleshooting step.

    • 4

Take the handle off again and take the screws out of the trim plate behind the shower handle. Pull the plate off. Slide the cover off the faucet body. This is the large, round part that slides over the cartridge.

Unscrew the cartridge with a 46 mm wrench and take it out of the faucet's body. Insert a new cartridge into the body of the faucet, tighten the cartridge with the wrench and replace the parts removed to access the cartridge. This will fix a leak or consistent poor temperature performance.
