How to Bring the Shower Curtain Rod Down

Shower curtain rods are either pressure-mounted or screwed into walls. Although generally durable, shower curtain rods eventually wear out and require replacement. Plastic shower curtain rods are often flimsier and therefore more likely to collapse than metal curtain rods, while metal rods may develop rust stains. Removal of shower curtain rods is necessary in order to replace them, and both types of curtain rods require different removal techniques.

Instructions

  1. Screw-Mounted Shower Curtain Rods

    • 1

Unhook or unclasp the shower curtain from the hooks on the rod. Once the shower curtain is removed, remove the shower hooks from the rod.

    • 2

Access the rod’s mounting hardware from a step ladder if necessary. Unscrew the screws from the wall plate on one wall using a screwdriver. The wall plates are the plates mounted on the walls to hold up the shower curtain.

    • 3

Unscrew the screws from the other wall plate on the opposite wall. Hold the rod with your free hand to prevent the rod from falling.

    Pressure-Mounted Shower Curtain Rods

    • 4

Unhook or unclasp the shower curtain from the hooks on the rod. Once you have removed the shower curtain, take the shower hooks off the rod.

    • 5

Push firmly on one end of the shower rod with one hand while grasping the middle of the rod with your other hand. Access the shower rod from a step ladder, if necessary.

    • 6

Press on the shower rod until the tension is released between the rod and the wall, and the end of the rod breaks free from the wall.
