How to Fix a Burnt Bathroom Counter

Laminate countertops are common in bathrooms because of their durability, versatile decorative patterns and affordability. Although low-maintenance, laminate countertops are vulnerable to blemishes. Burns, for example, are prevalent on bathroom countertops and result from laying hot curling or straightening irons directly on countertop surfaces. These unmistakable dark marks detract from laminate countertops’ aesthetic appeal and make bathrooms look rather dingy. While mild burns present little challenge to eradicate, deep burns in laminate countertops are generally permanent.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the countertop before removing the burn mark. Begin by moistening a clean cloth with water and 1/4 teaspoon mild dish washing liquid.

    • 2

Wipe the burnt laminate with the cloth to collect grit and grime. Thoroughly clean the burnt area.

    • 3

Dampen another cloth with water. Wipe the soapy gunk off the countertop.

    • 4

Dampen a nonabrasive sponge with water. Coat the sponge liberally with baking soda.

    • 5

Rub the burnt laminate with the mild abrasive cleaner. Buff as much burn residue off the countertop as possible.

    • 6

Wet another cloth with water. Wipe the laminate countertop to rinse off the baking soda.

    • 7

Dry the countertop with a towel.
