Remove the awning. Clean off any dust, debris, spiderwebs or insects with a broom. Place the awning on a flat surface and spread it out.
Clip off any long, loose awning fibers around the tear with scissors. Dampen a cloth and clean around the tear. Wait one hour for the cleaned area to dry completely.
Place the two sides of the tear together as if they were already joined. Cut a piece of awning repair tape with the scissors long enough to cover the tear.
Place the tape over the tear so that both sides of the tear have equal portions of the tape. Press down hard with your fingers to bond the tape to the canvas. Remove all the bubbles or wrinkles in the tape with your fingers.
Flip the canvas over and place a piece of tape on the tear from this side just as you did on the top. Hang the awning back up.
