Repairing a Porcelain Bathroom Shower Soap Dish

Fixing broken soap dishes is tricky because you need the right adhesive for a job that lasts. Some adhesives won’t work in moist environments, such as bathrooms, and others take too long to dry. The key it to use two types of adhesive to hold the soap dish in place. One adhesive dries quickly and holds the other adhesive in place as it cures. The slow-curing adhesive expands and is water-resistant, providing a seal that will last for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the broken soap dish pieces with trisodium phosphate to get rid of any soap residue. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.

    • 2

Apply a thin line of a two-part epoxy adhesive along one side of the broken tile edge. Leave room on the outside edge for the second line of adhesive.

    • 3

Draw a thin line with a fast-drying adhesive along the outside edge of the soap dish. Cyanoacrylate is a commonly found fast-drying adhesive.

    • 4

Press the broken pieces into place. Align the pieces quickly because the cyanoacrylate dries in seconds.

    • 5

Leave the soap dish to cure for at least 24 hours. Consult your epoxy glue instructions for exact curing times. Do not use the shower until it the glue is cured.

    • 6

Wipe up any excess glue using acetone nail polish remover on a cotton swab.
