How to Replace a Pre-Hung Exterior Metal Door

Replacing an exterior metal door is no different than changing a wooden or fiberglass door. A metal door does offer greater security, however, as well as a longer lifespan than other types of doors. Replacing a pre-hung door is a task that you can complete yourself, but having an assistant will make the replacement easier and the job faster.

Things You'll Need

• Hinges
• Screws
• Screwdriver
• Level

     Remove the existing door. Open the door all the way to gain access to the assembly hardware. Remove the screws from the hinges and set aside. Lift the door off the hinges.

     Attach the new hinges to the door frame, using the included screws.

   • 3

     Have an assistant hold the new door in place while you attach the hinges to the new door. Use the level to make certain that the door is level.
