How to Replace Ice Makers for General Electric Profile Arctica Refrigerators

The General Electric (GE) Profile Arctica refrigerator is a line of refrigerator that features freezers in side-by-side, top and bottom, and French-door style variations. The freezer compartment of these appliances features an ice maker that can fail completely, requiring complete replacement. Instructions

    • 1

Move the Profile Arctica refrigerator slightly away from the wall so that you can access the rear of the appliance. Twist the handle of the water shut-off valve counterclockwise to shut off water flow. The shut-off valve can be found at the bottom of the Arctica's rear. The water supply tube extends into it.

    • 2

Disconnect the refrigerator's power cord from the power source.

    • 3

Open the Profile Arctica's freezer. Remove the ice bin from the ice maker assembly by sliding it out. It is not bolted down.

    • 4

Use a 1/4-inch hex screwdriver to remove the screws along the top and bottom of the ice maker assembly. This will loosen the assembly and allow you access to the rear electrical harness.

    • 5

Find the electrical harness at the Profile Arctica refrigerator ice maker's rear and notice how it connects to the electrical harness on the back of the freezer compartment via a tab. Each harness has a separate tab and the two tabs are connected.

    • 6

Disconnect the two electrical harnesses by pushing the tabs together until they unclasp.

    • 7

Pull out the Arctica refrigerator's ice maker assembly.

    • 8

Insert the replacement Arctica ice maker assembly into the spot vacated by the old.

    • 9

Connect the two wire harnesses by pushing the tabs from each together.

    • 10

Insert the screws that come with your ice maker into the top and bottom of the assembly using your hex screwdriver. Refer to your specific ice maker's manual for exact screw placement.

    • 11

Slide the ice tray into place on the assembly.

    • 12

Turn the water valve's handle clockwise to turn the water supply back on.

    • 13

Plug in the Profile Arctica refrigerator's power cord.
