How to Knock Out a Granite Sink

Granite is a natural stone that is a material commonly used for countertops and sinks. It is hard and comes in a variety of colors, with natural striations and color differences that add to the character. When you install a new granite sink, holes are required to install the faucet hardware. Typically, granite sink manufacturers provide predrilled knockout holes that you simply remove. This allows home owners to remove the holes they need and disregard the ones they don’t.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up the granite sink and place it on to a study work surface or on the ground. This helps give the sink support while you knock out the holes.

    • 2

Look at the back edge of the granite sink where the faucet hardware will reside. You will see stickers provided by the manufacturer that indicate the locations of the knockouts.

    • 3

Read the instructions for your faucet hardware carefully to determine which holes you need for the installation. Draw an “x” on top of the stickers you need to knock out and peel the others off of the granite sink.

    • 4

Place the tip of a punch or a nailset tool on the top center of one of the stickers and hold it firmly using one hand. Pick up a hammer in the other hand and hit the top of the tool firmly to knock out the hole.

    • 5

Repeat the process to knock out all of the remaining sticker holes you marked.

    • 6

Insert a file into the top of each hole and file the edges of the knock out until they are smooth and even.
