How to Cover an Air Leak From a PVC Pipe

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe is used for many different purposes, including air transfer. This is particularly true if you have a pump system set up for your swimming pool. But since these pipes are made of relatively lightweight material, it is possible for them to become damaged. One problem that may occur is a puncture, which results in a leak in the pipe. There are ways to fix the pipe that won’t take up too much of your time.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the power to whatever unit your PVC piping is connected to. Locate the area of the PVC pipe that is leaking.

    • 2

Cut through the pipe about 1/2 inch on either side of the leaking hole. Remove the inch-long section of damaged pipe.

    • 3

Coat both ends of the remaining PVC piping with PVC primer.

    • 4

Coat both ends of the remaining PVC piping with PVC cement.

    • 5

Fit a PVC couple attachment over one end of the PVC pipe.

    • 6

Insert the remaining end of the coupler into the remaining end of the PVC pipe. Wait a few minutes for the primer and cement to set.
