How to Fix a Wobbly Vanity Top Sink

You might have a wobbling vanity top sink if the vanity’s cabinet is not sitting level on the bathroom’s finished floor or the vanity top is not sitting level on the cabinet. When the sink top wobbles, the drainpipe connections and even the water supply line connections under the sink may become loose and may possibly lead to flooding. The water damage from the flooding may not be apparent at first, since the water could collect in the subfloor and damage the floor joists before coming through the ceiling below the vanity.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine where the sink’s cabinet touches the finished bathroom floor and look for any gaps between the two. Push wood shims into any gaps you find, using a hammer to carefully tap them into place without cracking the floor tiles.

    • 2

Place a level on the vanity top to determine that it is sitting level while you drive shims under the vanity top. Cut through any portions of the shims that stick out from under the cabinet using a utility knife or a wood chisel.

    • 3

Look inside the cabinet at the underside of the vanity top to look for mounting hardware that holds the vanity top to the cabinet. If you see mounting hardware, turn the screws clockwise until they stop to tighten the vanity top’s mounts.

    • 4

Examine where the vanity top meets the top of the cabinet to look for gaps between the two with the level still on the vanity top. Push wood shims into any gaps you find until the vanity top does not wobble and it sits level.
