How to Repair a Porcelain Enamel Tabletop With Cracks

Porcelain enamel is a durable material. However, when it cracks, you need to repair it so the cracks don't weaken the surface. This requires an adhesive filler that expands in the cracks, solidifying the table top. Epoxy works well in this circumstance because it is water-resistant, so you easily can clean the table after you use it. Allow the adhesive to cure properly for a table that is as strong as new.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the table with trisodium phosphate to remove any dirt and residue from previous cleaners. Rinse the top with plain water and thoroughly dry it. Speed the drying process by using a hair dryer on the low setting.

    • 2

Mix a two-part epoxy adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions. The easiest epoxies mix together as you depress the plunger so you don't have to mix them yourself.

    • 3

Fill the cracks with the epoxy, using a toothpick to push the adhesive into the smallest cracks.

    • 4

Leave the epoxy to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions. Epoxy cures slowly, so it takes at least 24 hours.

    • 5

Clean up any epoxy residue using acetone nail polish on a cotton swab once the epoxy is dry.
