How to Fix a Crack in a Plastic Faucet

Plastic faucets are lower end quality faucets that crack easily if a little pressure is put on them. If this happens, you can choose to repair the crack rather than replacing the faucet. The key to repairing plastic is to use the right adhesive. Plastic is a slippery surface that many adhesives won't stick to for very long. A flexible, waterproof, durable adhesive is necessary. Epoxy is the best option because it will last for years on plastic.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the crack with a dry toothbrush to remove any dirt or residue build-up.

    • 2

Wipe with a dry cloth to remove the loosened soil and remove any moisture found inside. Push the cloth into the crack using a fingernail to ensure that it is dry.

    • 3

Mix the two-part epoxy according to the package instructions. You only need a small amount of epoxy for a plastic crack, so opt for easy-to-use epoxies. These come pre-measured, making them easier to mix.

    • 4

Insert the epoxy into the crack using a syringe, toothpick or spatula, depending on the size of the crack. Ensure the epoxy is far enough in that it coats the back of the crack.

    • 5

Wet a rag and carefully smooth the epoxy so it is flush with the faucet's surface.

    • 6

Leave the epoxy to dry for up to eight hours, according to package instructions.
