How to Replace Glass on Double Oven Doors

The process for replacing glass in an oven door is the same, no matter how many ovens you have. Each door is separate and seals each oven, whether you have a single or double oven. Depending upon the manufacturer, an oven door will have two to four panes of glass. To replace a pane, you must remove and dismantle the door so you can remove and replace the defective glass.

Locate the security latches on each door hinge and lift them into the open position. You will find one latch per hinge. Lift the door up and off the oven housing. Remove the screws on the top and bottom edge of the door, using a Phillips screwdriver. Separate the back half of the door from the front half.

Remove the screws that secure the glass trim, holding the glass panel in place, to the side of the door that has the defective glass.

Remove the door seal or gasket from the door housing and lift the glass panels out of the door. Pull apart the metal frame that holds the stacked glass panels and discard the broken glass.

Place the new glass into the metal frame, replace the metal frame into the door and reinstall the gasket. Replace the glass trim over the glass panels and secure with the Phillips screws. Place the two sides of the door together and secure by installing the screws along the top edge and bottom edge of the door. Slide the hinges into the slot on the oven housing and push the security latches back down.
