How to Install a Filler Piece in Frameless Cabinets

Frameless cabinetry is popular in modern decor schemes. The doors of frameless cabinets completely cover the cabinetry behind them, producing a minimalist look. But cabinets are rarely installed onto plumb surfaces, and if the cabinets aren't custom, a gap is often left between two cabinets that needs to be filled. Filler pieces are inserted into these gaps to allow cabinets to fit properly, even in frameless cabinets.

Instructions

    • 1

Dry fit the filler piece beside, or in between, the frameless cabinets. Determine whether the width of the filler piece is the proper size or the piece must be cut.

    • 2

Measure the width of the gap beside, or in between, the cabinets with a tape measure or ruler.

    • 3

Mark the necessary width on the back of the filler piece. Then draw a straight, vertical line on the backside of the filler piece representing the portion that needs to be cut.

    • 4

Place the filler piece flat on a work surface. Plug in and power the circular saw. Use medium pressure to guide the blade along the drawn line on the filler piece to cut it to the exact width.

    • 5

Hold the filler piece beside the cabinet and dry fit it. If still too wide, recut it to the proper size.

    • 6

Open the cabinet door and predrill two holes at hinge level through the side of the cabinet and into the filler piece.

    • 7

Screw two #8 x 2 1/4 inch finish screws into the predrilled holes. If anchoring the filler piece between two cabinets, repeat the process of predrilling holes through the side of the second cabinet and into the other side of the filler at hinge level. Then insert the same size screws.
