How to Install a Sewage Ejector System in a Basement

If your building's design doesn't allow it to use a gravity-fed sewage system, install a sewage ejector system in the basement. The sewage-ejector system collects waste in its basin. Once the waste reaches a certain level, a pump turns on, and it moves waste out of the building.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a hole in the basement floor for the sewage ejector system. If the basement has a finished floor, mount the system to the floor, and run pipes all the way up to the roof.

    • 2

Line up the basin's intake hole with the drain pipe. If the basin is too high, remove soil from the hole to lower it, or adjust the mounting brackets to lower it. If the basin is too low, put it on concrete blocks. The basin's intake hole must be level with the drain pipe.

    • 3

Connect the drain pipe to the intake hole. Use PVC glue if the drain pipe is a PVC pipe. Otherwise, attach the basin's gasket to a flanged drain connection by putting the gasket in between the intake hole and the drain pipe. Tighten the flange bolts with a wrench.

    • 4

Connect the discharge pipe to the ejector pump's discharge port. Use PVC glue to cement this pipe in place, and tighten flange bolts with a wrench.

    • 5

Mount any vent that comes with your system. After mounting the vent, plug the system into a 120-volt wall receptacle, and fill the basin with water to start the pump. If the pump starts before the basin is filled to the manufacturer's specifications, raise the float, and keep adding water.
