How to Find a Leak in a Cement Slab

The most accurate way to pinpoint a leak in or below a cement slab is to invest in a water-leak detector. The place where the water's leaving the slab isn't necessarily your problem spot. Water could very well be coming from another point in the slab and working its way to the the point where you see it coming out. A water-leak detector isn't cheap, but it can simplify the job of finding where that water is coming from.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase or rent a water-leak detector. They are available online and at some home-improvement and plumbing companies. A water-leak detector has a sensitive microphone that cancels out background noise to focus on the source of a leak.

    • 2

Set up your water-leak detector, following the manufacturer's instructions. Check your user's guide if you have any questions.

    • 3

Place the detector microphone over different areas of your cement slab to pinpoint the source of your leak. The reading on the detector screen will tell you when you've found the source of your leak.
