Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl. Follow the baking soda with 1 cup of white vinegar.
Allow the two ingredients to foam for 15 minutes to dissolve any minor clogging material, such as grease or hair and body products.
Place a toilet plunger directly over the drainage area of the toilet bowl. If the water in the toilet bowl doesn't cover the bottom of the plunger, add more water. Once the water level is above the bottom of the plunger, it helps create a seal so the air pressure needed to move the clog doesn't escape.
Move the plunger up and down over the drainage area to force the clog through. Repeat this process for one to three minutes to unclog the toilet.
Switch to a closet auger to break up and remove the clog if it's still present. Insert the end of the closet auger into the toilet. Turn the handle clockwise until you feel the end of the auger reach the clog.
Wind the handle a few turns more to push the tip into the clog. Rotate the handle of the auger counterclockwise three turns. Change directions, and turn the handle clockwise until the end of the auger is secure in the clog.
Pull and push the clog back and forth to help loosen it in the toilet. Carefully continue moving the clog back and forth with the auger until it's dislodged.
