How to Remove Waterseal From Vinyl

Waterseal is a useful product that effectively seals wood and prevents moisture from being absorbed, which could cause damage or warping. It is available in both clear and tinted forms and offers long-lasting protection. While that is a plus when the waterseal is applied to the deck or patio, it can be frustrating when some of the solution accidentally lands on your vinyl siding. The most efficient removal method depends upon how long the stain has been in place, as old stains require a more intense approach.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray a pine-oil-based cleanser onto the waterseal before it dries completely. Thoroughly saturate the stained area and allow the cleanser to remain in place for approximately 10 minutes.

    • 2

Scour the area with a stiff-bristled scrub brush.

    • 3

Hose the cleanser away after scrubbing.

    • 4

Put on a pair of protective gloves and apply stain stripper to the vinyl, if the pine-oil cleanser wasn't effective. Leave the stripper in place for 30 minutes.

    • 5

Scrub the stain using a melamine foam sponge.

    • 6

Repeat the treatment until the waterseal has been completely removed.

    • 7

Rinse the stain stripper away with a garden hose.
