How to Remove American Craftsman Windows

American Craftsman windows and doors are available exclusively at Home Depot. During the renovation of your home, you may wish to update the windows, opting to replace an old American Craftsman product with a new, more energy-efficient model. The windows are secured using screws that are covered from view. When removing the window, follow the proper protocols to avoid damage to the wall and prevent avoidable repairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the inside stop on the front of the left and right sides of the window. Use a utility knife to score a line between the stop and the wall.

    • 2

Tilt the bottom panel of the window toward you, away from the window. With the inside stops removed, the panel easily moves forward.

    • 3

Loosen the adjusting screws on the middle of the window jambs, on each side of the window. The screws are accessible with the bottom panel pulled away from the window.

    • 4

Return the bottom panel to its original position -- against the window -- and then slide the bottom panel up slightly, so the plastic stops on the inside of the bottom of the window jamb are accessible. Ensure that the window does not block the plastic stops on the inside of the top of the jamb.

    • 5

Pry off the top and bottom plastic stops, located on both sides of the window, with a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 6

Remove the screws at the top and bottom of the window jamb, on both sides of the window. The screws are accessible with the plastic stops removed from the window.

    • 7

Tilt the window toward you and then lift the entire window to remove. The window, which is held in place with an adhesive, may require a small amount of effort to pull it away from the wall.
