How to Tighten a Handle on a Grocery Cart

A metal grocery cart often has a plastic cover on the handle to provide a better grip for shoppers. A grocery store can order these plastic covers imprinted with their name and in a color that matches the store's colors. Over time, these handle covers may become loose, and you must tighten them to avoid injury to shoppers who may pinch their fingers or get some other minor injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the screws from the underside of the plastic handle. You can flip the cart upside down if it is easier, or simply reach underneath to unscrew them.

    • 2

Check the threads on the screws to ensure that neither one is stripped. If a screw is stripped, replace it.

    • 3

Remove the plastic cover from the cart handle.

    • 4

Apply a small amount of hobby glue to the metal rail along the top of the handle.

    • 5

Press the top plastic piece back into place over the metal handle. The glue will help hold the plastic piece in place more securely.

    • 6

Hold the bottom plastic piece in place along the bottom of the cart handle while you insert each screw and secure them in place with the screwdriver. Tighten them fully so they don't work themselves loose with use.
